Katerina Poladjan was awarded the Leipzig Book Fair Prize in the fiction category for her book “Goldstrand”. The jury announced this decision on Thursday during the first day of the fair.
In the non‑fiction category, Marie‑Janine Calic received recognition for “Balkan‑Odyssey 1933‑1941 - Fleeing Hitler across Southeast Europe”. The prize for best translation went to Manfred Gmeiner for his rendition of “Unten leben”, translated from Spanish by Gustavo Faverón Patriau.
Since its inception in 2005, the Leipzig Book Fair Prize honours outstanding new German‑language publications. The total endowment for the prize is €60 000. Each winning author receives €15 000, while each nominee gets an additional €1 000.
