Borussia Dortmund Appoints Nils‑Ole Book as New Sporting Director

Following Sebastian Kehl’s departure, Borussia Dortmund announced that Nils‑Ole Book will take over as the club’s new sporting director. The 40‑year‑old signed a contract that runs until 30 June 2029, effective from this Wednesday, after the club released him from his duties at second‑tier side Elversberg.

“With Ole Book we have secured the candidate we desired for the BVB sporting director position” said the club’s sporting director Lars Ricken. Ricken, who has followed Book’s career at Elversberg first as sporting director and later as sports director, stressed that Book “fits us technically and personally”.

Book’s playing career saw him appear for Rot Weiß Ahlen, MSV Duisburg and SV Wehen Wiesbaden before retiring in the summer of 2017. He then joined Elversberg as a scout later that year, became the club’s sporting director in 2018, and was promoted to sports director in 2023. Under his stewardship, Elversberg achieved consecutive promotions in 2022 and 2023, ascending from the Regionalliga to the 2. Bundesliga.
