The Federal Ministry of Transport has launched a new incentive program aimed at improving charging infrastructure in and around multi‑family buildings. The goal is to make electric‑car charging more accessible at the roughly nine million off‑street parking spaces currently available. The program supports the purchase and installation of private charging equipment such as wall boxes, as well as the necessary network connections and construction work.
Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder noted that the shift to electric cars often fails not because of a lack of desire but because owners lack a home charging option. “Most people in Germany live in multi‑family houses, yet their parking spaces are still inadequately equipped for charging” he said. The new funding-amounting to €500 million-intends to address this shortfall.
The initiative is divided into three calls targeting residents’ associations, small and medium‑sized enterprises, and housing corporations. In total, up to €500 million will be available. The National Coordination Center for Charging Infrastructure will oversee the programme’s content. Applications can be submitted starting 15 April 2026.
