Saxony-Anhalt Leader Demands Immediate Fuel Price Relief Plan from Federal Government

Given the persistently high prices for gasoline, the Prime Minister of Saxony-Anhalt, Sven Schulze (CDU), has urged the federal government to present and implement a plan to ease the burden on car owners by the end of the week. Schulze told the “Bild” newspaper on Monday that “the frustration surrounding fuel prices is greater than ever”. He stated that achieving results this week regarding the drop in high fuel costs is crucial, emphasizing that citizens and businesses must immediately feel the reduction, rather than waiting weeks or months.

The CDU politician characterized the current situation as a “truly catastrophic one that endangers livelihoods”. He mentioned knowing several company executives whose employees are threatening to stop commuting daily because they can no longer afford fuel and lengthy commutes, noting that the cost of gasoline is completely eroding wages in these businesses-especially in those where home office options are unavailable.

Separately, Schulze dismissed calls for lower travel fares on buses and trains, arguing that such measures would not advance the country. He suggested that the discussions around these fares merely illustrate how detached parts of the Berlin political scene are from the daily lives of ordinary people in smaller towns and rural areas.
