A delegation from the European Commission held technical discussions with representatives of the upcoming Hungarian government in Budapest on Friday and Saturday, according to a statement issued by the Brussels authorities on Sunday. These meetings followed contacts between Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and the designated Hungarian Prime Minister, Péter Magyar, who committed to working together on several urgent issues. The discussion centered on ways to make progress in releasing EU funds allocated to Hungary, which have been frozen due to concerns over corruption and the rule of law. The European Commission stated that these meetings offered an early opportunity to discuss concrete steps required both to unblock the money and to improve cooperation between the EU and Hungary, noting that this work is necessary and will continue.
