Bayern Executive Kathleen Krüger Joins HSV as New Sporting Director

Kathleen Krüger, who is set to become the first permanent female sports executive in Bundesliga history, is making a move to Hamburger SV (HSV). The club announced on Tuesday that the 40-year-old former Bayern Munich employee will join them starting July 1st.

Krüger has been involved with the FC Bayern Munich since the end of her active playing career in 2009. At Bayern, she worked in various capacities, most recently serving as “Senior Leading Expert Sport Strategy & Development” where she managed the club’s sports strategy and structural development.

Michael Papenfuß, the Chairman of the HSV Supervisory Board, commented on the acquisition, stating that “HSV gains a profiled personality with many years of high-level international experience at FC Bayern Munich”. Papenfuß highlighted that over 17 years within the major club presented her with an environment where she gained significant experience, shaped various processes, and demonstrated exceptional organizational and leadership capabilities. He added that she successfully combines sports competence, strategic thinking, and strong communication skills, and that she will now hold overall responsibility for the sporting sector at HSV.

With her arrival, Krüger will take over the role previously held by Stefan Kuntz, whom the club parted ways with this past January.
