Heidi Klum criticized the fact that the United States was governed by a president like Donald Trump, who lacked formal political background. Speaking to “Zeit Magazin”, she noted, “I think it is fundamentally important in a job where you decide so many people that you have studied for it. That should actually be the case everywhere”.
The model, who resides in Los Angeles, also shared details about her past relationship with Trump, whom she first met in 1998 on the set of the film “Studio 54”. She recalled attending his wedding to Melania in Mar-a-Lago because her then-husband, stylist Ric Pipino, had done Melania’s hair. “He was just Donald, a funny guy. Everyone knew him in New York” Klum said.
Turning to issues faced by her family, Klum spoke about the racist hostility her children have endured. Three of her four children are from her marriage to the British musician Seal. She explained, “Due to our interracial marriage, we received many hate letters and threats” which necessitated round-the-clock security for all the children.
Following the 2021 murder of George Floyd by a white police officer, she has been discussing racial justice with her children. “Black Lives Matter is and has been a massive issue, even in our home” Klum shared. She highlighted the importance of Black history and culture in the US, stating, “I find that essential and I support it, especially because I cannot pass that knowledge on to them myself”.
