Federal Minister of Labor Bärbel Bas (SPD) has called for a digital tax to help fund public services. Speaking at a meeting hosted by the “Rheinische Post” in Düsseldorf, Bas emphasized that a key question is how companies reaping significant profits from the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) can help finance the state.
She noted that AI deployment will impact “all industries” in the labor market. According to the SPD leader, some jobs will inevitably disappear, but she offered an optimistic counterpoint regarding the trades. Bas pointed out that skilled craftsmanship could become a “golden opportunity of the future” for young people. This is because, for example, AI cannot yet install heaters; that remains a task exclusively for human workers.
