According to information provided by the German Navy, there are currently 155 ships with German connections operating in the crisis zone around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most crucial maritime trade routes. Of these, 44 vessels are located within the Persian Gulf. The reports indicate that three of these ships have been attacked.
The analysis comes from a document issued by the German Navy and reported on by “Welt am Sonntag.” A security update titled “Security Update Brief Persian Golf,” released by the Naval Command on June 4th, rates the security situation in the Strait of Hormuz as “critical.” Since the start of the Iran conflict, there have been over 30 attacks on ships in this area, resulting in fatalities on some occasions. These attacks originate from Iran, the USA, or pirates.
Furthermore, there is a risk posed by mines. The document states: “The danger of additional mines near the Strait of Hormuz cannot be ruled out.” While AIS and GPS disruptions are still occurring, they are significantly less frequent than in March, manifesting irregularly and only in specific local areas. In recent days, increased disturbances have been observed not only in the Strait of Hormuz but also ahead of the Saudi Arabian port of Yanbu in the Red Sea.
