Youth Charged with Historic Spree of 105 Cross-Border Bomb Threats to Hospitals and Schools

The District Court in Halle, Saxony-Anhalt, is dealing with a highly unusual criminal case involving 105 bomb threats across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. According to sources from the “Mitteldeutsche Zeitung”, the prosecution in Halle has charged a 16-year-old youth with disturbing the public peace by threatening criminal acts.

State Prosecutor Benedikt Bernzen confirmed that the accused is facing charges for a total of 105 incidents, which he allegedly carried out between July and September 2025. The youth reportedly sent these threatening emails to “numerous schools and hospitals.”

The trial will take place in a youth lay judge panel and will be held in private. A court spokesperson informed the newspaper that the defendant was born in Germany and had already commented on the prosecution’s allegations, though no details were provided.

Kolbig stated that if convicted, the typical sanctions for juveniles could include educational measures, disciplinary measures, or a juvenile prison sentence. A verdict is not expected before the end of June.
