Philosopher Sloterdijk Slams AfD as ‘Hodgepodge of Poseurs,’ Blaming Voter Resignation

Philosopher Peter Sloterdijk has sharply criticized the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. Speaking to the magazine Focus, he stated that no sensible person should expect even the slightest improvement from this collection of clueless pretenders.

The 79-year-old believed that the AfD’s success stems primarily from voter resignation. According to Sloterdijk, when people feel that nothing is changing, some start thinking, “I might as well try the AfD.”

The philosopher also denounced the AfD’s plans in Saxony-Anhalt. The party explicitly relies on the concept of “illiberal democracy,” a framework heavily influenced by former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. Sloterdijk objected to championing the term “illiberal.” He observed that “the new cynics are precisely trying this: they are making immorality their central platform.”
