Germany and Algeria Forge Strategic Partnership to Boost Trade, Energy, and Cooperation

During the visit of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to Berlin, Germany and Algeria solidified a “strategic agenda” for deepening their bilateral partnership. Both nations issued a joint statement affirming their commitment to expanding cooperation across numerous sectors, including political and diplomatic relations, economic and trade affairs, energy, and sustainable development.

Regarding political and diplomatic ties, the two countries agreed to hold regular political dialogues and “comprehensive consultations” concerning bilateral, regional, and international issues, alongside establishing thematic dialogue forums. The economic collaboration will be bolstered by strengthening trade and investment ties. The agreement emphasizes that Germany should continue to serve as a primary European partner for Algeria, particularly in the fields of industrial machinery, electrical equipment, and chemical products.

Furthermore, energy cooperation was identified as a crucial focus area, specifically addressing the diversification of energy supplies and the expansion of renewable resources. Both sides highlighted the strategic importance of the Southern Hydrogen Corridor project. Intensification of cooperation is also planned in cultural exchange, education, science, technology, as well as in areas of regional security, migration, and defense.
