Schulze: Steinmeier Successor Must Be Seasoned Politician to Navigate Difficult Times

Sven Schulze, the Minister-President of Saxony-Anhalt (CDU), has stated that the successor to Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier should be an active or previously active politician. Schulze told the newspapers of the Funke Media Group that the ideal candidate must possess deep knowledge of politics both at the state and federal levels. He insisted that the person chosen should come from within the political ranks, rather than being an outsider. Schulze argued that given that the times are becoming more difficult, the next Federal President will need to be capable of managing challenging situations. When asked if the position should automatically be held by a woman, Schulze replied in the negative, asserting that gender should not be the sole criterion when selecting the successor.
