Hundreds of people gathered at the Brandenburg Gate on Sunday to mourn the victims following the deadly attack at the Berlin CSD. At the Place de la Concorde in Paris, a moment of silence was observed. Participants laid flowers, lit candles, and offered each other comfort. In addition to rainbow flags, posters reading “Hate is deadly” and “An attack on one is an attack on us all” were held up.
The investigation into the perpetrator continues. While there have been reports of a suspected passenger being arrested in the vehicle involved in the incident, this has not been officially confirmed. The 21-year-old individual, identified as Abdul B., allegedly sped through the Berlin Tiergarten in a small truck around 10 PM on Saturday, where CSD participants were celebrating. He ultimately crashed into a tree and then fled the scene. Furthermore, according to the interior ministry, several people were reportedly “injured by sharp tools,” implying he may have attacked bystanders with a machete.
Latest information indicates that a woman was killed in the attack, and a total of 29 people were injured. Police reported that the injured victims are now out of danger.
