After nearly 15 years without a direct service, a non-stop flight connecting Germany and the Syrian capital, Damascus, is scheduled to operate for the first time again on July 29.
The Cologne-based airline, Leav Aviation, announced Monday that it has secured the necessary operational permits from both the relevant Syrian aviation authorities and the German Federal Aviation Office (LBA). The flights are now available for booking.
The resumption of this route is made possible by a new air traffic agreement between Germany and Syria, which was finalized in mid-July 2026. This treaty establishes the legal framework for direct flights between the two nations for the first time in years. Before this development, direct flights had been impossible due to the political and security circumstances arising from the armed conflict that began in Syria in 2011.
The service will utilize an Airbus A320-200 aircraft capable of carrying 180 passengers. According to the airline, the offer is primarily aimed at the Syrian community in Germany, as well as business travelers. Initially, Leav Aviation will run the route twice weekly. The total flight duration is slightly over four hours. For the inaugural journey, which departs from Düsseldorf at 7:30 AM on Wednesday, the one-way fare with carry-on luggage is set at 502 euros.
