Hertha BSC secured a 5-3 victory against Eintracht Braunschweig on Friday as the third round of the 2. Bundesliga kicked off. Meanwhile, VfL Osnabrück defeated VfL Bochum 1-0.
In Braunschweig, the hosts initially took the lead, thanks to Yann Sturm putting them ahead in the 10th minute. Kevin Ehlers doubled the lead for the home side in the 33rd minute. However, Hertha managed to mount a comeback before the half-time break. Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson reduced the deficit in the 44th minute, and Josip Brekalo leveled the score just as added time began in the 1st minute.
After the break, the Berlin side decisively took control of the match. Kevin Ehlers scored an own goal in the 53rd minute, giving Hertha their first lead. Brekalo further extended the advantage by converting a penalty kick in the 69th minute. Oluwaseun Adewumi added to the lead in the 87th minute, but Jan Urbich managed to reduce Braunschweig’s deficit to 3-5 in the 88th minute.
In the match at Bochum, Osnabrück scored the crucial goal early on. Ismail Badjie put his team up 1-0 in the 4th minute. Although the guests scored another goal in the 41st minute, it was subsequently disallowed after a review. Osnabrück successfully defended their lead until the final whistle, taking three points from Bochum.
