BSW founder Sahra Wagenknecht stated that she has never personally discussed a potential collaboration with Ulrich Siegmund, the AfD’s top candidate for Saxony-Anhalt. “We have not spoken to each other,” Wagenknecht told the broadcasters RTL and ntv.
When asked whether her discussions about shifting majority support required talking to him, she initially steered the conversation toward the electorate. She also sharply criticized Siegmund’s stance of refusing to run as Minister-President unless he could secure an absolute majority, instead yielding the post to the CDU. According to the BSW politician, this position is “absolutely wrong.”
Instead, Wagenknecht called for a cross-party figure to serve as Minister-President-someone who would also genuinely address the concerns of AfD voters. “We want a cross-party, accepted personality who nevertheless stands for a new political direction,” she stated. She added that this leader must take the concerns of all voters seriously, including those who currently support the AfD and the BSW, noting that these groups “partially share similar concerns.” Specifically, she emphasized that these people advocate for controlled migration, not uncontrolled immigration.
