The federal government does not anticipate a prompt formation of a state government in Saxony-Anhalt. Deputy government spokesperson Sebastian Hille told the dts news agency on Monday that the delay is due to “not simple majority situations.” Hille added that the government is prepared to adapt to whatever develops, as no concrete timeframe has been set. The AfD secured a landslide victory in the state election held on Sunday, but narrowly failed to achieve an absolute majority in the parliament. Consequently, the CDU, which currently leads the formation of the state government, would require the support of both the Linkspartei and the BSW to establish a stable majority.
