Guirassy Leads Dortmund to Thrilling 3-2 Champions League Victory Over Villarreal

Borussia Dortmund has successfully begun the 2026/27 Champions League season. The team started strongly at home in the Westfalenstadion, defeating FC Villarreal with a final score of 3-2.

The match started at a fast pace, but no goals were scored in the first half. Both sides generated chances, yet neither Dortmund nor Villarreal managed to convert them. The first half was also overshadowed by a concerning incident when Konstantinos Karetsas had to be carried off the pitch due to circulatory problems.

After the break, Dortmund increased the pressure and received a reward in the 53rd minute when an own goal by Renato Veiga gave the home side the lead. Villarreal remained unfazed and responded in the 66th minute with a header from Santiago Mouriño. However, the guests’ joy did not last long.

In the final phase of the game, Serhou Guirassy took control, scoring the 2-1 winner in the 80th minute after Fabio Silva crossed the ball into the area. Just five minutes later, Guirassy converted a penalty to make it 3-1, having been tackled by Santiago Mouriño in the box earlier. Importantly, in stoppage time, Guirassy then scored an own goal, setting the final score at 3-2. With this victory, Borussia Dortmund secured three points in the new Champions League season.
