René Obermann, Chairman of the Airbus supervisory board, is calling for a worldwide effort to govern artificial intelligence in light of autonomous hacking attacks driven by AI models. The former telecommunications manager told the “Tagesspiegel” (Monday edition) that “a global agreement is needed to control AI-one initiated by the United States and China, involving Europe, India, and others. It must involve hard rules, even between the currently rival major powers.” He added that this issue would quickly become as significant as limiting the spread of nuclear weapons.
Obermann believes the rival superpowers, the US and China, must engage in creating such an agreement. “If the two fail to develop a binding model that everyone can adhere to, we face a global problem whose extent we cannot even fathom,” Obermann stated.
