Luigi Pantisano, the head of the Left Party, has accused the CDU of assisting the AfD in the election of Tobias Rausch as the president of the State Parliament of Saxony-Anhalt. Pantisano told Spiegel that the civil society in Saxony-Anhalt and the people suffering because of the AfD have likely been betrayed by the CDU. “To me, this reeks of a blue-black cartel with the friendly support of the Wagenknecht party,” he stated.
The party leader expressed alarm regarding the upcoming December election, when AfD politician Ulrich Siegmund is slated to be elected as Minister-President. Pantisano warned that anyone who blurs the lines regarding the AfD should not be surprised if the party reaches power through these gaps. He called on Chancellor Friedrich Merz, as CDU leader, to quickly clarify how this breakdown in political barriers occurred.
Tobias Rausch, the AfD politician, was elected as the new President of the Parliament of Saxony-Anhalt on Tuesday. Rausch received 48 votes in the election. While his party was scheduled to cast 39 votes and the BSW contributed 5, the AfD politician must have secured the remaining four votes from other parties in the secret ballot.
