Following the assertion by Manuela Schwesig, the Prime Minister of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (SPD), that the CDU treated the retired Labor Minister Bärbel Bas “inhumanly,” members of the Union are now demanding that Schwesig offer an apology. Christoph Ploß, a CDU Member of the Bundestag, told the Rheinische Post (Wednesday edition) that Schwesig should recognize that she is entirely mistaken and should ask for forgiveness.
Ploß added that the accusation was “an evil foul” by Manuela Schwesig. The CDU politician further argued that the public rightfully expects the black-red coalition to implement the reforms that have been prepared over the past weeks.
Günter Krings, the Deputy Leader of the Union parliamentary group, told the Rheinische Post that he is not the only one who is “highly astonished” by the Prime Minister’s claims. He pointed out that she was unable to provide any examples of the alleged personal attacks against the Minister in recent weeks, because no such examples existed. Krings demanded that the coalition should simply focus on advancing its diverse policy tasks rather than getting distracted by such claims of internal party disagreements.
