The Green Youth is calling for participation in the planned Gen Z protests scheduled for this weekend. Henriette Held, Co-Federal Spokeswoman for the Green Youth, told the “Welt” that they are urging people to join because they consider it extremely important for young people to take to the streets when they are dissatisfied with how many things in the status quo are running wrong. She explained that her generation cannot find affordable housing, is struggling to afford their weekly grocery shop, and is constantly worried about the next electricity bill.
Held dismissed concerns about potential escalation, which had been voiced by the Federal Students’ Conference. She stated that the clear consensus among those involved in the “Gen Z regelt” protests was peaceful demonstration. She believes it is unfortunate that so much discussion is already being held in the conditional tense about what might happen, suggesting that fears of “violence and appropriation” are premature. She further characterized this debate, which seems to be inspired by the protests of French youth, as being heavily influenced by “right-wing hype.”
