Wednesday saw the Dax index displaying no clear direction during the trading day, even after a cautious opening. Around 12:30 PM, the leading index was calculated at 25,570 points, marking a slight retreat of 0.1 percent from the previous day’s closing level. Symrise, a manufacturer of fragrances and flavors, stood out as the weakest performer. Although the company recently released improved quarterly figures, investors appeared unconvinced by the results.
Andreas Lipkow, Chief Market Analyst at CMC Markets, noted that trading activities within the Dax are currently being driven by quarterly earnings reports from companies such as Deutsche Bank, Mercedes-Benz, and BASF. He emphasized the positive impact of the German banking giant, Deutsche Bank, and stated that the data released by Mercedes-Benz has the potential to boost the entire automotive sector. Consequently, the stocks of Volkswagen, BMW, Daimler Truck, and Mercedes-Benz are anticipated to be among the winners.
However, Lipkow cautioned that these positive influences are not sufficient to counteract the upcoming major announcements from industry giants like Alphabet and Microsoft, nor the imminent interest rate decision by the US Federal Reserve. Due to the potential for strong market reactions to these “mega events,” market participants are exercising considerable restraint in anticipation.
In currency markets on Wednesday afternoon, the Euro showed some weakness, trading at 1.1125 US dollars, which meant a dollar was worth 0.8989 Euros. Gold prices also dipped slightly in the afternoon, reaching $4,047 per fine ounce, representing a 0.4 percent decrease. This price equates to 116.95 Euros per gram. Conversely, oil prices rose markedly, with Brent crude (North Sea variety) costing $115.30 per barrel around noon German time-a 1.3 percent increase compared to the previous trading close.
