Former Bundestag President Wolfgang Thierse (SPD) has said that a recent report in “Spiegel” concerning the leftist Berlin mayoral candidate, Elif Eralp, has solidified his reservations about a potential coalition involving the Left Party, the Greens, and the Social Democrats. While Thierse stated that he feels compassion for Eralp’s anxieties, he urged her to remember the influence of a milieu that extends deeply within her own party-the same milieu that contributed to the Left Parties electoral success. The SPD politician went on to emphasize that merely issuing strong declarations is no longer sufficient; the Left Party must undertake truly purifying actions internally. Otherwise, Thierse declared, he considers a coalition with the Left in Berlin to be irresponsible.
