Agriculture Minister Alois Rainer (CSU) has criticized the proposed sugar tax planned by the government. Speaking to the Funke Media Group newspapers, the CSU politician stated that his skepticism regarding taxes on foodstuffs-which are intended to influence consumer habits-has remained consistent. According to Rainer, if such decisions move forward, it is crucial from his perspective that the resulting revenue is specifically ring-fenced and allocated to support the healthcare system. Nevertheless, the Minister indicated that he will not introduce a veto against the measure, arguing that a working democracy depends on compromise.
