Aleph Alpha Joins Cohere to Challenge US Tech Giants

The Heidelberg-based AI firm Aleph Alpha is scheduled to become part of the Canadian company Cohere. Following months of negotiations, an agreement has been reached for the two companies to join forces into a single entity.

The specifics of the merger indicate that Cohere’s existing shareholders are expected to hold roughly 90 percent of the shares, while Aleph Alpha’s shareholders would hold the remaining ten percent. According to reports, this distribution is intended to align with the respective revenue ratios of both companies.

The planned collaboration is set to position Cohere and Aleph Alpha jointly as an alternative to U.S. technology conglomerates, offering advanced artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for both corporate businesses and public government agencies.

The merger was officially confirmed on Friday during a joint press conference attended by company representatives and Canadian AI Minister Evan Solomon. Federal Digital Minister Karsten Wildberger (CDU) publicly expressed strong support for the consolidation. In his remarks, Solomon thanked both countries for their diplomatic efforts in reaching the agreement.
