CDU Cabinet Shakeup: Linnemann Lands Health Ministry as Political Reshuffle Sweeps Through Leadership

Former Federal Minister of Health, Nina Warken (CDU), is reportedly poised to replace Cabinet Minister Thorsten Frei (CDU). This development was reported on Thursday afternoon by publications such as the “Bild-Zeitung” and “Handelsblatt”, citing sources within the CDU or independent information. Simultaneously, current CDU General Secretary Carsten Linnemann is expected to succeed Warken and move into the cabinet as the Minister of Health.

“Handelsblatt” also indicates that other personnel changes are underway: Franziska Hoppermann is anticipated to take over Linnemann’s position within the CDU. Furthermore, Philipp Amthor (CDU), who currently serves as a State Secretary in the Ministry for Digital Affairs, is set to replace Michael Meister as the State Minister for Federal-State Cooperation in the Federal Chancellery.

This whirlwind of personnel shifts was triggered by the resignation of Jens Spahn (CDU) from his role as the leader of the CDU parliamentary group. Spahn came under scrutiny because he privately utilized a surrogate mother abroad, despite having politically advocated for a ban on such models.
