CDU Vice-President Karl-Josef Laumann is confident that the coalition government will move its reform plans forward before the summer recess. Speaking to the “Rheinische Post,” Laumann stated his expectation that the plan to outline the essential principles of these reforms by the summer will be upheld. This is particularly relevant for the planned changes within the health and care sectors. Draft legislation will be introduced, and the pension commission is scheduled to present its proposals at the end of June.
However, according to Laumann, it is not possible to have everything finalized and decided within the Bundestag before the summer break. Nevertheless, he emphasized that defining the general direction of change would represent a very significant step forward. The Minister of Social Affairs for NRW reinforced this position during a meeting of Union party committees on Monday.
