Facing disappointing poll numbers for the coalition parties, CDU Vice President Karl-Josef Laumann has strongly urged greater unity in the upcoming reform processes. Speaking to the “Rheinische Post”, Laumann emphasized the urgency of the political mandate, stating, “We simply have to get the work done now”. He stressed that if the reform concepts are finalized soon, they must be approved as a united party, calling it the only viable option. Concurrently, the North Rhine-Westphalia Social Minister called for a spirit of compromise from both sides. Laumann pointed out that both the SPD and the CDU must be willing to make concessions. He concluded by suggesting that all involved parties now understood that these compromises were necessary.
