DAK Slams Health Ministry’s Reform Plan Over Uneven Burden on Insureds

Andreas Storm, the CEO of the statutory health insurance provider DAK-Gesundheit, has sharply criticized the plans put forward by Federal Health Minister Nina Warken (CDU) for a comprehensive healthcare reform. Speaking to the “Rheinische Post” on Wednesday, Storm warned that “Federal Health Minister Nina Warken’s proposals have an extreme imbalance that could jeopardize the success of the planned statutory health insurance funding reform”. He stressed that any large-scale savings package for the health system must ensure a fair and equitable distribution of the burden, noting that this is currently not the case. According to the DAK chief, “The suggestions burden almost exclusively the benefits sector and the insured”. Furthermore, he pointed out a critical omission: “There is no approach to adequately financing the statutory expenditures for recipients of basic income support. This is unacceptable. If the state does not participate in the costs for non-insured benefits, there will be an acceptance problem with the entire package”. Storm concluded that a definite corrective measure is necessary in this regard.
