Investigators from the Public Prosecution Office and the Tax Investigation Department apparently searched the headquarters of Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt am Main on Wednesday morning, according to reports from Business Insider and the Welt. These actions are reportedly connected to ongoing investigations concerning suspected tax evasion related to Cum-Cum transactions. Cum-Cum describes a method employed by various business actors, both domestically and internationally, who attempted to reduce their tax burden on capital gains by moving shares of German companies around just before the dividend cutoff date. Unlike the criminal Cum-Ex deals, Cum-Cum transactions are not inherently illegal, but judges and investigators are increasingly viewing these financial structures with suspicion.
