Significant disruptions occurred in the cargo flight traffic at Leipzig/Halle Airport on the night leading up to Wednesday. According to MDR, a sighting of a drone prompted a major deployment involving both the Federal Police and the Saxon State Police. After approximately two hours, operations were resumed on the North runway. However, the South runway remained closed initially because an unidentified object had been discovered there, which the Federal Police have since secured, a police spokesman confirmed. As a result, one passenger flight and several cargo planes had to be diverted. The passenger aircraft initially landed at Nuremberg Airport before reaching Leipzig later that night. Cargo traffic at the DHL hub was severely hampered starting around midnight, causing planned departures to be delayed by several hours.
