The Green Party has called on the Union coalition to support an amendment to the constitutional ban on discrimination enshrined in the Basic Law. Britta Haßelmann, leader of the Green Party faction, stated that it is “time to act.” She pointed out that her party has been advocating for years to supplement Article 3 of the Basic Law to specifically include the facet of sexual identity. Haßelmann emphasized the urgency, noting that queer individuals are increasingly exposed to hate and violence. According to Haßelmann, efforts are being made to suppress the visibility of these groups. However, previous initiatives put forward by the Green Party to change the Basic Law have not managed to secure the necessary two-thirds majority in the Bundestag.
