Hoeneß Favors Eberl Extension But Keeps FC Bayern’s Future Undecided

Uli Hoeneß, the honorary president, has not offered a definitive position regarding a contract extension for Sporting Director Max Eberl at FC Bayern. Speaking to “Der Spiegel”, Hoeneß indicated a tendency of “60 to 40 favoring an extension” but stressed that “there are still doubts”. He declined to articulate the reasons for his uncertainty publicly, stating, “I don’t want to go into detail now; I will let that be part of our discussion in the Supervisory Board”.

Despite the ambiguity, Hoeneß conceded that Eberl is “a manager who has played a major role in our success this season”. Eberl’s current contract runs until 2027. Discussions about a renewal, however, cannot start until July 1st, as the board members are only permitted to negotiate or extend contracts one year in advance. The honorary president concluded by saying that the Supervisory Board meeting in August will have to decide whether Max Eberl is the manager best suited to lead FC Bayern into the future.
