Oil Price Recovery Slow: Experts Forecast Protracted High Fuel Costs Due to Infrastructure Damage

Christian Küchen, CEO of the business association Fuels and Energy, believes that despite the Iran deal, a rapid return to pre-crisis fuel prices is unlikely. Speaking to RTL and ntv, Küchen noted that the signals are highly positive, and these expectations appear to be factored into current pricing. He stated, “I would assume this will now pull prices downward.” However, he also pointed to severe damage to the energy infrastructure. He added that restoring normal production could take months, or even years. This damage includes compromised refineries and extraction facilities. Küchen maintained that prices remain elevated compared to the pre-crisis period because of continued shortages in global markets, but he admitted that the extreme price spikes have already been observed.
