Parliamentary State Secretary Tino Sorge of the Health Ministry has publicly criticized Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz (both CDU). In a written statement released on Monday afternoon, Sorge stated that the Chancellor’s decision was announced first in party committees and to the press, rather than through a personal discussion with him, which he described as a “question of his own personal style.” Sorge added that given the recent events and the eve of several state elections, the Federal Chancellor must have made the decision carefully. He expressed hope that the decision “follows a higher logic that is larger than the sum of individual personnel decisions.”
