Should the federal election take place this Sunday, the AfD currently leads with 27 percent, though this represents a one percentage point drop compared to early August. The Union holds second place with 21 percent, while the Greens remain stable at 15 percent. The SPD and the Left are seen as beneficiaries, with the SPD rising to 13 percent (+1) and the Left climbing to 12 percent (+1). The FDP remains steady at 4 percent, falling below the parliamentary threshold, while all other parties combined currently total 8 percent (-1).
Regarding the performance of the federal government, 15 percent of respondents report being very satisfied or satisfied, a two percentage point increase from early August. However, 84 percent are less satisfied or entirely dissatisfied with the work of the Union and the SPD (-1).
On a personal level, President Friedrich Merz (CDU) currently receives satisfied ratings from 13 percent of eligible voters-a one percentage point decrease from August. This marks the lowest level of satisfaction for a chancellor in the history of the “ARD Deutschlandtrend.” Conversely, 83 percent are dissatisfied or not satisfied with his leadership (-1).
In other ministry rankings, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) is viewed favorably by nearly half the respondents, with 51 percent reporting satisfaction or high satisfaction (-2). Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul (CDU) enjoys 34 percent satisfaction (+2). Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) registers 30 percent satisfaction (+2), though 52 percent remain dissatisfied (-2).
Other officials show mixed results: Vice-Chancellor and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil (SPD) has 22 percent satisfaction (-1), coupled with 65 percent dissatisfaction (+3). Labor Minister Bärbel Bas (SPD) has seen a decline of four percentage points, currently at 18 percent satisfaction, with 59 percent expressing dissatisfaction (+4). Economic Minister Katherina Reiche (CDU) is rated at 13 percent satisfaction (-2), while 62 percent are dissatisfied (+4).
Turning to opposition leaders, AfD group leader Alice Weidel is rated by 26 percent of respondents (a one percentage point decline from July), and 64 percent are dissatisfied (+1). Green party leader Felix Banaszak has 12 percent reported as very satisfied or satisfied, 29 percent are less satisfied or dissatisfied, and a majority of 59 percent either do not know him or do not wish to make a judgment. For the Left party leader, Ines Schwerdtner, only 7 percent were satisfied (-2 compared to July). Furthermore, 69 percent were unable or unwilling to form an opinion regarding her work.
