German Hospitality Revenue Declines in First Half of 2025

Germany’s hospitality sector experienced a decline in revenue during the first half of 2025, according to data released Wednesday by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). Total revenue for the sector decreased by 3.7 percent in real terms and 0.1 percent nominally, when compared to the same period in 2024.

Hotels and other lodging establishments saw a real revenue decrease of 2.6 percent and a nominal decrease of 0.2 percent during the first six months of the year. Restaurants and catering services experienced a more significant downturn, with real revenues falling by 4.1 percent, while nominal revenues edged up by 0.1 percent.

Looking at June alone, overall hospitality revenue declined by 2.5 percent in real terms and 3.9 percent nominally compared to May 2025. Year-over-year comparisons for June reveal a 5.9 percent real and 3.4 percent nominal decrease in revenue.

The lodging sector specifically recorded a 1.6 percent real and 5.5 percent nominal revenue decrease in June compared to May. Compared with June 2024, lodging revenue fell by 5.1 percent in real terms and 4.9 percent nominally.

Restaurants and catering faced a 2.1 percent real and 1.9 percent nominal decline in revenue in June compared to the previous month. Relative to June 2024, the sector experienced a real revenue decrease of 5.3 percent and a nominal decrease of 1.5 percent.
