Environmental, Climate & Science Leadership Change

Kathrin Moosdorf has resigned from her position as Senator for Environment, Climate and Science in Bremen, her party, the Greens, announced on Saturday afternoon. The reasons behind her departure were not disclosed.

Moosdorf offered her resignation, a decision that was expressed as regretful by Landesvorstandssprechers Josephine Assmus and Franziska Tell, Mayor Björn Fecker and parliamentary group leader Henrike Müller.

In their statements, party leaders lauded Moosdorf’s committed work over the past two years. Particular emphasis was placed on her efforts supporting the University of Bremen’s Excellence Strategy, the reform of the tree protection ordinance and the adoption of the Climate Action Plan 2.0. Maintaining the strength of the region’s scientific infrastructure, despite budgetary constraints, was also recognized as a significant accomplishment.

According to the Greens, lasting achievements during Moosdorf’s tenure include the Bremen Biodiversity Strategy, the revised tree protection ordinance and the successful acquisition of federal and EU funding for environmental and scientific initiatives. The securing of drinking water supplies through a water pact with Lower Saxony and the development of the Science Plan 2030 are also cited as key accomplishments.
