The Forsa poll on voter support shows the Union’s backing slipping again, now just ahead of the AfD. In the weekly poll for RTL and ntv, the CDU and CSU together lost a point, falling to 26 percent, while the AfD added two points to reach 25 percent.
The Greens sit at 15 percent, comfortably ahead of the SPD’s 12 percent, which has stabilized at a low level. The Left has dropped one point from the previous week, bringing it to 10 percent. The BSW remains steady at 3 percent and other parties together at 9 percent. The FDP stays below the 3 percent threshold and is grouped with the Other parties. The share of non‑voters and undecided voters is 25 percent, higher than the 17.9 percent of non‑voters in the last Bundestag election.
When asked about political competence, the Union feels a clear squeeze this week. Its score fell by two points to 17 percent. The AfD, by contrast, gained two points to reach 13 percent. The Greens are most trusted to solve the country’s problems at 8 percent, followed by the SPD at 4 percent and the Left at 3 percent. Nevertheless, 52 percent of eligible voters say they trust no party with political competence.
Satisfaction with Chancellor Friedrich Merz remains low: only 25 percent of Germans are content with his performance, while 74 percent are dissatisfied. This places his approval rating only slightly above his historic low.
The survey was conducted from 17 to 23 March with 2,501 respondents.
