Hoffenheim opened the scoring in the 42nd minute with a penalty goal from Andrej Kramaric. The penalty was awarded after an unfortunate handball by Niklas Süle, who had previously sustained a knee injury without opposing contact. Despite a strong start from Dortmund, featuring a shot by Lemperle hitting the crossbar, Hoffenheim progressively gained control of the game.
In the first half, Hoffenheim’s attack was more direct, while Dortmund struggled to create clear chances. A header from Svensson narrowly missed the goal, and the Dortmund defense appeared shaky during several host attacks.
