Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) is apparently taking a short break after the special meeting of the Union faction and the appointment of new ministers on Wednesday. Government spokesman Stefan Kornelius told the dts news agency on Monday that the Chancellor expects “a few free days.”
While not revealing the specific destination of the head of government, Kornelius confirmed that Merz would not be in Berlin. Instead, the Chancellor will “run the official duties from there,” though the spokesman stressed that the Chancellor remains “always on duty.”
Regarding the summer period, Kornelius announced that a detailed Cabinet schedule has been put in place. He mentioned that in some instances, meetings could be led by the Chancellor’s deputy, Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil (SPD). Previously, Klingbeil was not always utilized to manage appointments when the Chancellor faced scheduling conflicts. Furthermore, it was already noted that one Cabinet session had been shifted from the customary Wednesday to a different day of the week.
