Israel-Hezbollah Truce Reached After Diplomatic Talks

According to US President Donald Trump, he brokered an agreement for a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah during a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Trump announced on Monday that Israel had agreed not to dispatch troops to Beirut and would withdraw troops already en route. In exchange, Hezbollah reportedly committed to halting all attacks, and Trump stated that Israel would not attack Hezbollah, while Hezbollah would simultaneously refrain from attacking Israel.

Context surrounding this announcement includes reports from Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, who had previously informed the US government, according to an Axios report, about Hezbollah’s readiness to enter into a ceasefire and assured that it would be implemented. Additionally, the US media cited an Israeli official who indicated that Hezbollah was prepared for a full ceasefire without demanding Israel’s complete withdrawal from Lebanon.

However, the Iranian news agency Tasnim reported on Monday that discussions aiming to end the war with the US and Israel had been suspended for the time being. Their reason was that Israeli attacks on Beirut violated the proposed ceasefire arrangements. Trump publicly dismissed this information from Tehran, assuring that he had received no such notification and that talks were progressing “at a fast pace”.
