In the fifth round of the 2. Bundesliga, 1. FC Magdeburg secured a 3-0 victory over 1. FC Kaiserslautern.
The lead came early in the 11th minute when Emmanuel Iyoha scored for the home team. The goal resulted from defensive lapses by FCK; as Magdeburg midfielder Moritz-Broni Kwarteng advanced through the midfield, Kaiserslautern defender Maxwell Gyamfi stepped out of position, creating space for Magdeburg striker Mateusz Zukowskiowski. Zukowskiowski delivered a slicing pass, which Iyoha converted directly. Although Kaiserslautern goalkeeper Julian Krahl initially deflected the shot, Iyoha managed to smash the rebound into the net.
Magdeburg extended their advantage just five minutes later, with Alexander Nollenberger making it 2-0 in the 16th minute. After a cross coming from the right flank, Zukowski initially missed the ball, allowing Nollenberger to move into position and fire a flat shot from 16 meters, which found the upper left corner.
Iyoha completed his brace in the 53rd minute, cementing the 3-0 lead. Kwarteng found ample space in the opposing half centrally, managing to bypass the retreating FCK defender Jacob Rasmussen with a hook. He then fed Iyoha a sharp through ball on the half-right, which he slotted coolly into the far side of the goal.
This crucial win lifts Magdeburg into third place in the table for now, while Kaiserslautern currently holds a position in sixth.
Other results from the matchday saw VfL Bochum draw with SpVgg Greuther Fürth, 1-1, and Eintracht Braunschweig also shared the points with Dynamo Dresden, 2-2.
