During massive Russian attacks targeting several Ukrainian cities, at least nine people were killed in the night leading into Tuesday. According to Ukrainian authorities, five people died in Dnipro, with 25 others injured. In Kyiv, four people were killed and at least 51 were injured. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that two high-rise buildings in Kyiv were hit and that people are suspected to be trapped under the rubble.
The Kremlin had previously announced last week its intention to launch “systematic attacks” against Ukraine in retaliation for a drone attack in the Russian-controlled Luhansk region last month, which reportedly killed 21 people. Klitschko urged the population to remain in shelters. Sources suggest that the new assaults also utilized ballistic missiles.
The attacks in Kyiv resulted in multiple fires and reported power outages across the city. Earlier on Monday, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had warned of a possible major Russian attack, calling on residents to take air raid warnings seriously.
