Werner Graf, the Green Party’s top candidate for the Berlin City Parliament election, is advocating for the construction of a new concert venue equipped with modern technology on the forecourt of Tempelhofer Feld. Graf argues that such a facility would give the city of Berlin “world-class appeal,” potentially attracting global stars like Adele or Taylor Swift.
He points out that the capital currently lacks an attractive location for major concerts. While the Olympiastadion exists, the Green politician criticized its sound quality, stating that many big stars are reluctant to perform in Berlin due to poor acoustics.
Graf proposes establishing a permanent stage in the area near the airport building, which should be outfitted with professional sound systems, technical equipment, and deployable stages. He noted that the usability of the location was already demonstrated by the band Die Ärzte during their three concerts there in 2024.
In contrast to his support for the stage, Graf firmly insists that Tempelhofer Feld itself must remain protected and should not be developed into housing. He described the site as “unique in the world,” emphasizing that its value lies in its public spaces, such as gardens, sports facilities, and quiet areas suitable for families. According to Graf, the priority should be enhancing these existing features rather than undertaking construction.
Graf is campaigning for the Berlin City Parliament election taking place on September 20th.
