In the opening Sunday fixture of the new Bundesliga season, SC Freiburg secured a 4-1 victory over Werder Bremen.
Freiburg took the lead early in the game. In the 29th minute, Yuito Suzuki headed home a corner delivered by Beste, giving the home side the advantage. Shortly before the halftime break, Igor Matanovic managed to boost the lead to 2-0 with a brilliant long-range shot, having been set up by Ginter.
Freiburg maintained their strong performance in the second half. Just after the restart, Suzuki capitalized on an assist from Scherhant in the 48th minute to score his second goal. Only seven minutes later, Suzuki repeated the feat, netting after a swift counter-attack initiated by Matanovic.
Werder Bremen managed to score a consolation goal in the 76th minute, when Dariusz Stalmach nodded home a corner from Grüll. However, this was the only goal the visitors managed.
For Freiburg, the next match is against SC Paderborn this Saturday, while Bremen is scheduled to face RB Leipzig at the same time.
